Furniture and lighting
Do you have wooden garden furniture in the garden? Then this is the perfect time to prepare them for autumn. Time to stain your furniture again, when the weather is dry of course. There will be many more days when you use the furniture, but there will also be some more rain in the run-up to autumn. So it’s ideal to prepare the furniture for this. Don’t just look at the furniture, but also at the wooden summer house; perhaps some spots can be updated here as well? No lighting in the garden yet? This is a perfect time to install lighting. The evenings aren’t that long anymore, and the sun sets between nine and ten o’clock. If you want to be able to enjoy the garden even longer, make sure you have appropriate lighting in the garden. This way, next spring, you can enjoy a sea of flowers in the garden again. Did a few plants fail to survive the hot summer? Think about the plants you want to buy to fill up the empty spaces. Don’t start planting until it’s a little less warm and there’s a little more rain. It’s a shame to not give the new plants a good chance. 
Found a few barren spots on the lawn? Perhaps you left the pool on the grass too long? From mid-August it is well possible to remove barren spots in grass by sowing grass seeds.
Care and pruning
Tie plants that grow against a fence, wall or summer house. At the end of the summer, it can be quite stormy. It’s a shame if these plants continue to come loose and stay on the ground in the autumn. Also look at any hanging baskets, keep them out of the wind to prevent them from drying out. Do you have roses or dahlias in the garden? August is the right month to remove dead flowers from these plants. Furthermore, this is the month when conifers can be pruned, as can boxwood. The latter can also be cut to shape. Got lavender in your garden? This can also be pruned in August, if you haven’t done so before. 
So on the whole, the garden is ready to go into the late summer. The weather can still be great, so you can still enjoy your garden to the fullest.
